Best Bathroom Cleaning Tips & Tricks

Bathrooms are one of the most sensitive places around the home when it comes to mildew, mold and other unpleasant dirty side-effects of human habitation. You can usually avoid all the unpleasant mass-produced and hazardous chemicals found in most hardcore cleaning products. You can also easily replace them with easier to handle and safer products and techniques, which we will cover in this guide to a cleaning and shiny bathroom:

Counteracting Soap Scum and Grime

You don’t have to buy expensive products to fix a problem of that kind – all it takes is using about three tablespoons of regular baking soda and half a cup of ammonia with two cups of warm water. Using this solution, simply wash and rinse the surfaces with a sponge or a rag and things will shine once more.

Cleaning the Toilet

This is by far one of the most if not most unpleasant task of cleaning a bathroom, but sadly there is no choice but to deal with it. With a few easy tips you can clean a bathroom with no trouble at all. Using antacid tablets into a toilet bowl can easily allow you to scrub it clean after no more than 20 minutes or so. Mouthwash can have a similar effect or a can of cola, as long as they spend enough time without being flushed down the drain.

Cleaning up the Mildew

Moisture in a bathroom is something that simply cannot be avoided for the most part, but it can be guarded against and cleaned once it has formed. You could prevent it for a while by soaking your curtains and liners in salty water before you hang them up. As for cleaning them, you could always add about half a cup of borax and the same quantity of vinegar to two cups of water. Pour it over the affected areas and let it sit like that for about ten minutes. Scrub it with a sponge or a cloth and you are done. You can do the same with two tablespoons of washing liquid and a bit of bleach. Spray this onto the curtains and await results. Making a paste of salt and vinegar will also work well when cleaning mildew around the bathroom.

Cleaning the Ceiling

While you are busy cleaning fixtures, tiles and more around your bathroom, you might miss on some things while you’re at it. For example, the ceiling is easy to miss out. You will see some rather unpleasant problems if you let it go for too long, such as mildew and mold in a high-moisture environment. Make sure you get a mop bucket and some white vinegar, mixing it with equal parts water. Put on some goggles to prevent the water from falling in your eyes and clean any sections of the ceiling which require special care.

Cleaning Tiles

Grouting between your tiles usually becomes a magnet for dirt, germs and mold if you don’t pay regular attention. You have to clean them up on a regular basis using a paste made of borax, baking soda and water. Using a toothbrush, scrape away any unpleasant areas on the grout and the tiles themselves until you have a neat, clean set of tiles.
