Toilet running continuously might be a bigger problem of one time or the another. Running toilet means that water is leaking from the toilet tank into the bowl provided for water storage and there is continuous passage of water into the toilet tank. If it not the problem of aging then check out whether its the problem with tank ball or flapper. Remember that all toilet water storage tanks are provided with overflow tube if the water level reaches to the maximum level and this might be another reason why water keeps running into the toilet. There is no problem with overflow of water and you shouldn’t be worried off.
Ways to Fix Toilet Running Issues
The most common way which is also the quick way to fix the running toilet issues is to simple wiggle the flush handle. By doing this it might re seat the flapper in the flush valve and this can solve your problem.
To determine whether water is leaking through the flush valve you have to put 2 or 3 drop of color water in the tank and wait for few minutes. Now after cetain time check the level of water in the bowl and know whether it has reached the level or not. If it has reached the maximum level there is leak in the flapper.
Many imes its the problem of corroded flush valve seat and this might be the also the reason why continue water continuously leaks the flapper. In such cases you can either scour the flush valve seat with special tool or replace the entire flush valve assembly. Doing that is a bigger job.
Finally if the flapper is of no use then replace the flapper with new which costs not more than $ 10. Most of the flapper comes with the installation instruction and you don’t need to call a plumber. You can call them when you are strucked.
